Built from ceramic materials, the DPF is designed like an ordinary catalytic converter and uses the same honeycomb structure. To ensure that the DPF system doesn't clog and cause performance problems, the 6.7 Cummins burns the collected soot into harmless ash through regeneration. The DPF regenerates in two automatic cycles; passive and active. Diesel Engine Regen. The parked regeneration is a regular procedure for diesel engines that get to the point where passive regens are not keeping the DPF (diesel particulate filter) clean. The differential pressure sensors will signal the motor control module MCM to alert the driver with an amber light on the dash that a parked regen is required. The Lindemann Diesel Boost, for example, is a perfect cleaning and protection additive for the DPF, but also for other parts such as the fuel system, the turbo and the EGR valve. This product increases the cetane number, which results in a more optimal combustion. The result is considerably less soot formation. I bought a new Vauxhall Corsa in November 2012, 2 days after having the car and only driving about 10miles the DPF light came on. Most of my journeys are short, say nine miles, clear roads, but I do longer motorway driving three days a week. My problem is that the light now comes on every second day.

Regenerations often take about 20 minutes and for me occur every 2-3 weeks or so every 750 – 1000 miles in the summer but in winter once per week as the exhaust gases take longer to heat up so the regeneration occurs later and 50% fails to complete before I switch the engine off so the car must do the regeneration …

Just attach the tool to the DLC and access the module's function to clean the DPF. Some tools will have a built-in step-by-step process, or just a simple "yes" or "no" function. However you handle it, make sure to always look up the information about the DPF regeneration mode in the vehicle's service manual before you start. PIy0.
