Just to confirm, I've got 2 accounts, EU and NA, and recently joined a levelling challenge where rules were to play on an f2p account (free). I've leveled in minimal fashion to 80 and while it has some restrictions, you get access to the core game for free and a great feeling for the core professions, mechanics, so you should be able to determine whether it is to your liking just fine.
